Custom Decals used in public art - The Sirens of Woolungah is a collaboration between local Aboriginal artist Lorraine Brown and Narelle Thomas and Wombarra based artist Michael Keighery. The Sirens of Woolungah, a contemporary ceramic artwork situated on a vertical wall in front of a beach side cafe on Wollongong Harbour. The artwork celebrates Wollongongs rich history and our communitys local identity and heritage. The artwork is inspired by many stories of the Indigenous and European histories of Wollongong, in particular the area around Wollongong Harbour. This collaboration has produced a rich and sensitive interpretation through the use of text, photographs and drawings inscribed onto porcelain tiles. It has been successful in creating a greater understanding of the complexity of this area and acknowledges the cultural diversity of our communities. The project is a prominent feature of the foreshore improvement under the Blue Mile Master Plan. .
